The learning curve

You're a dentist. When did you agree to learn CAD?

exocad and 3Shape are laboratory software. They're built for a technician who sits in front of them all day — framework design, bar work, implant planning, milling strategies, hundreds of tools deep. You will open almost none of it.

You'll pay for all of it, every month, and you'll spend your evenings learning an interface built around somebody else's job. All you wanted to do was show a patient what their smile could look like.

Now the fair objection: DDS runs in Blender, and Blender looks terrifying.

So does Windows, if you open the control panel. You don't learn Windows to write a letter — you open Word. Same idea here. You install the add-on and what you get is one panel:

The honest summary

When you shouldn't buy this.

If your practice runs heavy implant work, framework design, or full-arch cases, buy exocad. It's a better tool for that job than mine is, and I'd tell you the same thing over coffee. You'd be paying for capability you'd actually use.

If you want a done-for-you service where you never touch the design, this isn't it either. And if you're not willing to give it an evening to learn the workflow, save your money.

What I built this for is narrower than that. You do cosmetic cases. You can already see the result in your head. What you've never had is a fast, cheap way to put it in front of the patient while they're still in the chair — without a lab fee on every case or a subscription that renews whether you use it or not. And what comes out is a real 3D model — print it in your office, or send the file to your lab.

That's the whole product. One job, done well, owned outright.
